From 22 to 26 February 2026, the Order of Malta Lebanon had the honor of welcoming H.E. Dr. Josef Blotz on his first official visit to the country in his capacity as Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta. The visit marked an important moment of encounter, reflection, and reaffirmation of a shared humanitarian mission rooted in centuries of service to the most vulnerable.

Throughout his stay, Dr. Blotz witnessed firsthand the breadth and depth of the Order of Malta Lebanon’s activities across the country. His journey took him from Beirut to the North and the Northeast Beqaa, where he engaged directly with medical teams, paramedics, volunteers, and beneficiaries who are at the heart of the organization’s daily mission.

The visit included stops at Community Health Centers, where primary healthcare services are delivered to vulnerable populations, as well as Mobile Medical Units, including specialized services such as dental and pediatric care. He also observed the Mobile Community Kitchens, which play a vital role in addressing food insecurity, and the Agro-Humanitarian Centers, with their processing units supporting sustainable local assistance and community resilience. In addition, he visited the Warm Homes dedicated to older persons, offering care, dignity, and protection to some of the most vulnerable members of society.

Beyond the structures and programs, the Grand Hospitaller’s visit was defined by human connection. Meeting beneficiaries and frontline teams allowed him to witness not only the impact of these initiatives, but also the dedication, compassion, and professionalism of those who carry them forward every day.

This first visit was marked by proximity and deep engagement, reflecting the living reality of the Order’s mission in Lebanon. It stood as a powerful expression of continuity between the international Sovereign Order of Malta and its Lebanese association, united in purpose and service.

Ultimately, the visit reaffirmed the timeless humanitarian vocation of the Order of Malta: to serve, accompany, and stand alongside those most in need with dignity, compassion, and unwavering commitment.
