The Order of Malta Lebanon was pleased to welcome H.E. Minister Haneen Sayed this past Sunday at its Chabrouh Center, where a three-day intergenerational recreational camp for older persons was taking place. The initiative was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs (MoSA), as part of a shared commitment to promoting dignity, inclusion, and well-being among Lebanon’s most vulnerable groups.

The camp brought together older participants, volunteers, and guests in a spirit of encounter and shared experience. Through creative workshops, interactive activities, and recreational games, participants engaged in meaningful exchanges that fostered friendship, joy, and connection across generations. The atmosphere reflected a strong sense of community, where age and background became bridges rather than barriers.

During her visit, Minister Haneen Sayed commended the efforts of both MoSA and Order of Malta Lebanon volunteers, highlighting their dedication to preserving Lebanon’s social fabric and cultural values. She emphasized the importance of cohesive communities in which older persons are not only supported, but cherished, remaining an integral part of family and social life.

Mrs. Lelia El Khazen Mallat, Managing Director of the Order of Malta Lebanon, presented an overview of the “Recreational Camps” project, which has been running for over 25 years. She outlined its evolution from a recreational initiative into what has become a true “School of Love,” dedicated to fostering dignity, emotional well-being, and human connection for older persons, particularly those in vulnerable situations.

Over the years, these camps have grown into a unique space where care is expressed through presence, attention, and shared joy. They continue to offer participants not only moments of respite and recreation, but also a renewed sense of belonging and purpose.

This recent gathering at Chabrouh once again reaffirmed the power of intergenerational solidarity and the importance of creating spaces where love, respect, and human connection can flourish.
